Cao Weixing, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, and Accompanying Officials Visiting Simcere

On September 2, 2009, Cao Weixing, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, together with Xia Bin (Vice Director of Provincial Department of Science and Technology), Guan Huashi (former president of Ocean University of China and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Yu Yifa (Vice President of Ocean University of China) and other leaders visited Simcere.

Tan Yan, Xu Xiangyang, Li Xiaomin and Tan Aimin (Vice Directors of Simcere Pharmaceutical Institute), as well as Xiao Fan (General Manager of Administration Department of Simcere Group), Li Wei (Vice General Manager) and other personnel warmly received Vice Governor Cao, Academician Guan and other accompanying officials. In addition, they accompanied the visiting leaders to visit the modernized experimental platform of Simcere Pharmaceutical Institute as well as the exhibition hall on the first floor of the headquarter of Simcere Group.

In the following forum, Vice Governor Cao Weixing was highly complimentary about the Simcere¡¯s development achievements in recent years and the corporate strategy of focusing on the development of innovative drugs on his speech. Vice Governor Cao hoped Simcere to further deepen the cooperation of production, education and research in the aspect of new-drug R&D, thereby converting the innovative capabilities into productivity faster and highly efficiently. Academician Guan Huashi said that it was his first visit to Simcere; he was deeply impressed with Simcere¡¯s good scientific research conditions as well as the corporate culture of ¡°facing up to setbacks and daring to innovation¡±. Especially valuably, Simcere invests 3%~5% of the annual sales income in new-drug R&D; it is rare in Chinese medical industry. Once new drugs are in the phase of clinical studies, huge costs of clinical studies severely block the product development in China; whereas, developed countries, such as US, own enormous capitals and are screening and acquiring the new drugs researched and developed by China one by one. Simcere¡¯s courage of bold investment in R&D deserves affirmation; the returns from independent innovation may be received only by bold investment. In addition, Academician Guan also said that the ocean is a treasury of rich pharmaceutical resources for antitumor and cardiovascular drugs, and coastal development will also be a national strategy of China; therefore, he hoped that Simcere¡¯s new-drug R&D can enter the field of ocean drugs as soon as possible, and hoped Simcere to cooperate extensively with Ocean University of China to push on Chinese R&D level of innovative drugs.
